My name is David Libby. I am a recently retired 20 year combat veteran. I first joined the military in 1987. I had a break in service after Desert Storm and attended college. I rejoined the service in 1997 and recently retired in 2015. I have been on deployments all around the world to include combat deployments to the middle east. I wanted to continue to serve but was medically retired due to my injuries. I got into writing and recording music after returning from Iraq in 2009. I wanted to share the therapeutic benefits of writing and recording music with other service members and their supporters. I also wanted to connect with those that felt lost or didn't understand what some of our service members were facing on a daily basis. I formed SOSRA to share these stories through music and to raise awareness and support for the non-profit organization Warrior Service. My passion is to serve those who served!
Starting as a weekend get together in my garage, goofing off and letting loose with friends, we began learning the ropes of playing music. As the vocalist and song writer, I quickly discovered I had a powerful ability to translate into lyrics my personal experiences and the stories i've collected over the years from fellow service members. As I continued writing, pulling material from deeper and deeper places within, I began to realize there was a healing process starting to develop. As myself and those around me began to see notable changes it solidified that I had found an avenue to help express and cope with my own experiences. It was then I knew that I needed to share this experience and that I no longer was content with just recreational weekend garage play. I wanted to take this to the next level by bringing unique lyricism and a powerful sound that could compete with the best in the industry. At this point it became clear that I now needed to connect with professional help to continue my endeavor towards my new found passion. Quickly, I found myself in north Hollywood working with talented and experienced individuals in the arts, that were willing and able to support my dream. Through long hours in the studio and a collaboration of efforts across multiple states, we have now made this dream a reality by completing our first EP, DEMOlition.
SOSRA's lyrics are a powerful combination of stories, based on real experiences of military veterans. Each song is not a singular story but a collaboration of experiences that express what our service members are enduring.
A percentage of the money brought in from the full album release will go to the non profit organization warriorservice.org, a non profit organization designed to service military veterans and their families.
